I read this again today and had to update my review. First, it is a wonderful story of the power of friendship and teamwork. It also teaches children (and adults) about many wonderful animals, some endangered species. The illustrations are magnificent ... breathtaking and captivating ... and really bring the story to life in a way that will engage children. But in reading it again (and again) there is so much fun and creativity in the details ... text that smiles and frowns, animal sounds incorporated into the text ... each time you look at the book you find something new and wonderful. A beautiful book on every level.

I love this book! The author's delightful storytelling weaves together a positive message with images that captivates the spirit. This is the most precious story that illustrates the profound truth that everyone we meet has a contribution in our journey. It is also about self-acceptance and courage. Turning the pages is like unwrapping a Christmas present that fills you with anticipation and discovery. He created an engaging and educational picture book! I will not be surprised if Benjamin Birdie's saga will continue to delight readers in the years to come.
My husband brought this home for my son after meeting with the author. I had never heard of it but my son absolutely loves books so I was excited to read it with him. It was amazing!!! I was so impressed with the story line. It had a great lesson and as I was reading it with him I was thinking to myself how I was so impressed with how incredible the vocabulary words were. To make this even better when we got to the end of the book it had a huge glossary of all those big words I was so impressed by, so my son will be able to understand what they mean. In addition, there were pages of each animal described in the book with descriptions and facts about each one. What an educational read this was. I highly recommend this book to anyone with kids. (P.s. my son loved it even more than I did!) we can’t wait for a sequel!
The first thing you and your child will notice is how beautiful this book is. Adults and children alike will enjoy the illustrations. The artist captures the emotion of the story perfectly in the faces of the story characters. Second you will enjoy reading an instructive and uplifting story that your child will want to hear over and over again. The book entertains first and foremost but powerful positive lessons about life are embedded in a way that causes them to soak in without being preachy or overbearing. The books quality construction will make this one that gets passed down from one child and generation to the next. As a parent, grandparent and great grandparent who loves books and who want kids to fall in love with books and reading, I declare this book a must buy.We bought one copy for our grandsons to take home and another to keep at our house for reading to any child who visits.

As a retired educator of 35 years, a mother of 3, and a grandmother to 5, I would heartily recommend this delightful tale. Ages 1 to 100 will enjoy the life lessons it holds, and the incredibly beautiful illustrations. The author has included a very useful and informative glossary where the true picture of the animal is featured along with the gorgeous illustration, and with everything you'd want to know about that particular animal.
Benjamin Birdie thinks he's ready to fly, but reality teaches him that this will come in time, as he learns to also depend on a little help from his friends. Your listeners will want to hear this story again and again, and you will want to read it to them ( or listen to them reading to you!).
Kudos to this new author who has given us a treasure in" Benjamin Birdie's First Flight". Can't wait for the next book. I foresee many more accolades to come!
