I read this when I was 12 or 13 as part of the Love Stories series. I couldn't ever forget this book (despite reading probably thousands of books since). When I saw it in Amazon, I just had to buy the book and re-read it (now I'm 28).

It was quite pricey (not used to shelling so much for an e-book but I just knew I had to read this again) but it was well worth it.

After around 15 years, the book is still able to hook me emotionally. The plot is short and concise (wish it is longer, hence only 4 stars) but it drives the point across. Obviously, the book left a mark on me which is why I still remember it after all these years and all the other books in between. Though it is really a YA book, it makes you think (no matter how old/young you are). It makes you re-assess your definition of love -- is it love to share the person you love? can you love 2 persons at once?

I wish I knew what happens to Sam and Alison afterwards. Did they really get their happy ending?

Kudos to Katherine Applegate for writing a book that has stayed with me for 15 years and probably for the next 50 years to come!

Sharing Sam Love Stories Katherine Applegate 9780385731355 Books Reviews

This book was originally published in 1995 by Katherine Applegate (of Animorphs fame) and had one of those cheesy 90′s teen romance covers. Luckily, it was reprinted a few years ago, and the striking new cover caught my eye when I was doing returns at my library. All in all, I’m glad I decided to pick it up. This was a really quick read that I read in one day, and quite short, at 156 pages. Mostly, I thought it was a really sweet story about friendship and the lengths to which we would go for those we love the most in life. This really appealed to me as I am a total sucker for books about female friendships. And while I thought Alison was noble and compassionate, sometimes I was just plain frustrated one, because she was lying to her best friend and two, because she loved Sam, he loved her, and it was sad to watch that forced into disintegration. While I felt heartbroken for Izzy and her terminal illness, it was kind of upsetting when he told Alison he was now in love with Izzy. I did not want Izzy to die, but you know it’s going to happen, so it seems that a lot of the story is waiting for the death in order to see what would become of Sam and Alison, once he can stop “pretending” to love Izzy.

I did like this story, despite being frustrated by it at times (which I think is only natural and possibly intended), and only wish it had been longer so that it could have been developed even further. For instance, I would have liked to see the relationship through Izzy and Sam’s perspective, instead of solely through Alison’s, so that we could have seen what their “pretend” relationship was really like.
I wanted to read this one because I am drawn to anything with cancer, and it was an interesting concept with the best friends and one boy. The cancer and death looming over Isabella.

My biggest issue was that Alison should have spoken up in the first place. The cheating gets to me even though this is a unique situation. I know that Alison had the best of intentions, and that she didn't want to say she had feelings for him because of the timing--the day that Izzy told her that she has cancer and its pretty severe.

It was an emotional book, and I connected with Alison. She is a little awkward in her own shoes, but she is okay with it. She is smart and works hard and has a dream for her future. She is mostly just the girl next door. She is loyal to Alison and they are so good as best friends. Alison has the humor to cheer up Isabella when she's feeling pretty dark.

I also liked Alison with her younger sister. They had a bit of a rough relationship at the beginning of the book, but I like how Sam's grandpa Morgan was something that brought them together and gave them something in common again, and avenues to talk to each other.

I like Sam pretty well. He is the bad boy image but he is a softie underneath. He is juggling so much and I know that he and Alison had chemistry. It was hard though when Alison asked him to go with Isabella.

Bottom Line Good with a couple issues. Liked the main character and friendship.
I was skeptical because the product was so inexpensive but I was extremely please when the product arrived. Great quality for a great price. will definitely come back for more.
I kind of felt like I hade stolen property when I got this book it is a old library book from a school that was marked over with perminat marker. I only paid 1cent for the book and $3.99 for shipping all the pages are still intacted and I can read everything so no complaintes.
This book is an example of true love. Have read it many times, and I still cry each time! Love this book!
