Left me grinning and wishing for a Scot of my own...The Heroine is in hiding, her family name in disgrace. The Hero has been commanded to accompany his recalcitrant sister to London for the Season. Although sponsored by a Duchess, the two Scottish siblings have had some problems navigating the English Ton. The story begins with our heroine saving the hero's sister from disaster when she draws a broadsword in Hyde Park. The Scottish pair are quick to ask the heroine's help and hire her as a companion. From there the story develops into an enjoyable read with pleny of chuckles.
The Scottish Waterses are a colorful family and I look forward to reading more about the family members.
Early on, I felt that the female characters had severely upstaged the hero. The hero does develop more dimensions as the story progresses. Almost like a striptease that you wished would hurry up. But by the end of the story he is a sigh-inducing charmer.
There were some sensual scenes but tastefully done. If you prefer romances that halt at kissing, this may not be your cup of tea. I would rate the heat level in the medium range. I prefer seduction scenes that are more on the naughty side, but I may be in the minority there.
One little negative- I felt the reader was left hanging in regard to the hero's musical compositions for the Gathering. The author never explains the Gathering or why the hero would write songs for it. It felt like an unfinished subplot for future development, which is a bit disconcerting since this is his story. However this minor glitch didn't take away from my enjoyment of the book.
This is the first book I've read by this author, and I've already bought another in the series. So would it be redundant to say that I really loved it?

Once again I am having trouble getting the correct number of stars for the book, there should be five stars on the top of the page. The disgraced brother and his sister are part of the plot. Also the Scots and English cultures .
Loved this continuing story of brothers finding the right woman to complete their lives. All brothers confirmed single man until the perfect mate comes along. Mystery abounds, but love prevails. I now eagerally await the final installment in this trilogy. These books have humor, can stand alone, but are all worth the price!
Oh what a wonderful escape. The fanciful world of the Ton, with a Highlander. I can't wait to have the time to read the next book. Some of the best books I've ever read.
I am a long time fan of regency romances, especially ones with Scottish heroes, but I could not even finish this book. I managed to get about one third of the way through before I had to stop and return it for a refund. There are so many issues, I honestly feel like I read a different book than most of the other reviewers. Spoilers ahead.
First of all, the characters of Pru, Robert, and Mary (our heroine, hero, and the hero a sister respectively) are one dimensional, flat, and boring. I did not care about any of them or get attached to them at all.
Robert is the least offensive, just so boring and ineffective for a brooding, handsome Scottish hero. Also, he falls in love with Pru after less than 24 hours of even knowing her, seeing her in only drab, oversized gowns, glasses, and bonnets (so basically can only see her nose, mouth, and chin at this point), and maybe exchanging a total of 10 words? Beyond the point of not being believable and it makes it nearly impossible for the reader to emotionally invest in this love story.
Mary comes off as both young and immature and wise beyond her years, depending on the chapter. We are supposed to believe that she has been raised as a lady, family friends with a Duchess, and groomed for a debut in society, yet somehow doesn't comprehend that you don't pull out a sword in the middle of Hyde Park and threaten a person? I am so, so sick of the plot device of the young girl debuting in Society who doesn't understand why her behavior needs to be a certain way and acts outrageously for no reason. I love a little rebellion in my female characters, intellengence and an unwillingness to simply marry and produce children with no thought, but it needs to be done well, with smart writing and maturity, it needs to be done with reason and intent. So very confusing and, honestly, just poor writing. She is not from a noble family, yet is making a debut, but doesn't want to get married. Nothing weird there, except for the fact that she also doesn't need to marry for money or for her family name. So why is she in London? Again, poor writing and plot development seems to be to blame.
And finally, Pru, our heroine. Boring, flat, no personality. She is supposed to be in hiding because her brother and parents are dead (which in itself makes no sense) but is living in London, trying to be a companion which will clearly put her into contact with Society? And decides to throw away her need to "hide out" by intervening during the sword incident for NO REASON. It just makes no sense and is so frustrating.
I cannot say enough how much I do not recommend this book, no matter the price. There are so so so many better authors with better written regency romances out there.
This is one of the best things that I have read in some time. The plot was good...fast-paced and exciting. The characters are wonderful a young Scottish miss who wields a claymore, an Earl's daughter in disguise, and a roguish Scotsman with a heart of gold. All the secondary characters (even those who appear for only a short time) are extremely well done. I almost felt that I could see and hear them. The love story between the H/h was good but if it had been the only thing in the book, I would have given it a 4. What made the book so entrancing for me was the hero's sister. Mary Elizabeth and shenanigans brought the book to a 5+star rating, as far as I am concerned. She is my kind of heroine and I have already pre-ordered her book. I'm calling it an early Christmas gift to myself!
