I don't know how I missed out on Dean Koontz for so many years. I was always a Stephen King fan and I still am but I've really fallen for many of Koontz's novels, including this one. I love his character development and his books move along at a great pace. His characters are so often what you might consider everday people or, rather, the way you wish ordinary people would be. If you're a Koontz fan, this won't disappoint and if you haven't tried him, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Koontz isn't just a horror writer. He's an excellent writer with memorable characters and I adore the dogs in his books. They're great characters all on their own.Tags : The Good Guy [Dean Koontz] on Amazon.com. *FREE* shipping on qualifying offers. Fantastic thriller believable Rarely does a story become so absorbing that you are unable to put it down, so thoroughly that you don't hear your phone ring and dissolve into a sniffling idiot when it's over. Can I please have some more Me Koontz?
I have read most of Koontz' books, liked "The Husband," but this one beats it. No supernatural stuff, just a plain old thriller that really is funny, intriguing and a fast read. The underlying spook-FBI conspiracy premise may not be new, but... as in other Koontz works, the characters make the book. The good guys (and girls) are blends of those we have met in the past, lovable AND believable, once you figure out the whole story, battling one of the most eccentric neurotic/psychotic villains in fiction. For animal lovers though, no dog hero (sorry). As for the ending, had me guessing all the way through. Koontz is definitely on track with this book and hope to see more like them, with or with out the ghosts. Take it to the beach!
Maybe the story wasn't bad, but listening to it was painful. The guy reading it, hated his voice and when he tried to sound like a woman, it was ridiculous.
Now, I LOVE Dean Koontz. I don't love all his books and I think the dialogue was lame and "eye roll" worthy. Character development was seriously lacking. I couldn't finish...final verdict...sucked
Great hook to begin the story with and the amazing ride doesn’t stop till the last page. Most readers will probably have guessed at the protagonist’s background but it doesn’t diminish the impact of the grand reveal. Will there be another Carrier book? If so, I’m in.
I read this book some years ago but didn't finish it because it was not about anything supernatural. Decided to give it another try because when you fun out of Dean Koontz books to read, life is a bit less bright. This one was very worth reading. The end is a big surprise & I wish it had been a little longer - just to find out a little more about the main characters. Love this authors way of writing.
I’m not a book reader. In fact I’ve never finished a book because they have never been able to capture my attention and hold it. As a part of my bucket list, my desire was to one day finish a book. This book was in the tv stand of a rental beach condo and something about it caused me to pick it up and start to read it. It was a quick read even for me. Easy to follow and captivating and full of suspense.
and I have long been a fan. But......this novel left me very disappointed. The original set up was clever, unusual and promised a good read. The main character, Tim, was mistaken for a hired killer one night in a bar and was given $10,000 to kill a woman. Then the real killer shows up, Tim realizes what is happening and attempts to call off the hit by giving the money to the real hit man and calling it even. Tim then finds the woman before the killer and the chase begins.
You never really know why the woman has been targeted, and once you find out in the last 20% of the book....it's not really likely. You get many pages of the chase and how Tim and the woman elude capture and many more pages of the psychological makeup of the killer who murders lots of folks along the way and has a secret organization cleaning up his criminal actions. What????????? Why???????????????? Just not believable. The abrupt ending suggested to me, even Koontz got bored.
What you do get is supurb dialog between characters...nobody writes conversations better than Koontz...he is a master.....it's just not enough to hold the book together.
